Welcome to Summer
Welcome to our summer edition – what a lot has happened since our last magazine! The pandemic has left economic uncertainty for everyone, so it’s really important that we continue to support our local tradespeople, not only to help them as individuals but also to ensure their skills are not lost. Welcome to our summer edition – what a lot has happened since our last magazine! The pandemic has left economic uncertainty for everyone, so it’s really important that we continue to support our local tradespeople, not only to help them as individuals but also to ensure their skills are not lost.
Among these skills are roofing of different varieties and in this edition we particularly focus on these crafts, meeting a local Thatcher, a family firm involved in the restoration of a Gilbert Scott church roof, and a talented painter who became a peg tile specialist as a ‘proper job’ to please his parents!
Appropriately in these times, we look at some practicalities of creating a home office, and – from her daily ‘pandemic walks’ – writer Louise Tomlin tells how she particularly appreciated the efforts some householders put into their front gardens.
We also have an article on recycling the past, including salvage, antiques and vintage. Rowena Hawtin talks about vintage of a different kind on her visits to six local vineyards.
There are summer recipes and – while on the subject of food and thanks to the Pig at Bridge Place restaurant – a chance to win a copy of The Pig: Tales and Recipes from the Kitchen Garden and Beyond.
Competition winners from Spring 2020:
The winner of the pastry book was: Mrs Sutton from Maidstone
The winner of the 2 course lunch at The White Horse was:
Mr Best from Faversham
